TOURISM IN SYRACUSE, SICILY

Enjoy yourself and play sports in Syracuse.

Located between the sea and a hinterland that preserves many natural riches, Syracuse offers the possibility to play many different sports. 
In fact, although the lion's share (as one would expect from a seaside town) is reserved for water sports, there are opportunities and facilities for those who prefer sports such as golf, riding, or flying. 
Thanks to its location in the extreme south of Italy, Syracuse enjoys a particularly mild climate that makes outdoor activities possible even in the late autumn and early spring.

ROWING 
For canoeing you can contact the "Canoa Ciane Siracusa", at Via Testaferrata 22. Phone: (++39) 0931 22800.

CYCLING 
Cycling is feasible both with your own equipment; Hotel Algilà offers its guests bicycles for free to get around the city or to reach the beach riding on two wheels. Those with small children can also be accommodated using the bicycle seats provided. 
It is worth noting in this regard the recent inauguration of the new bicycle lane, with views over the coast of Syracuse.

GOLF SYRACUSE 
The Golf Club Canottieri makes its facilities available (on Viale Pantanelli) to golf enthusiasts and has a golf pro available. 
It also allows you to rent equipment on site.

EQUESTRIAN 
For fans of equestrian sports there is the Società ippica siracusana, which also offers a riding school and horse therapy with a qualified instructor. The società has its own facilities in the city (about 50,000 square feet) suitable for both amateur and professional activities. 
Syracuse also boasts the Hippodrome of the Mediterranean, about 55 hectares in area, in Cassibile.

DIVING 
The companies and associations dedicated to the lovers of diving, including scuba diving and snorkeling, are numerous.

TENNIS 
Tennis and match ball can be played at the Tennis Club Siracusa association, at Viale Santa Panagia, 268. Tel (++39) 0931  757988.

SAILING 
Sailing fans can contact the Circolo velico Ribellino, or the Circolo Juvenilia. 
There is also a yacht club at the marina in Marzamemi. 
Notable among the major races: the Syracuse-Malta (which in even years starts from Malta, and in odd ones from Syracuse) and the Historic Regatta of the neighborhoods of Syracuse. They both take place during the summer.

AVIATION 
Aviation enthusiasts have the structure managed by the Avio Club Siracusa, with a runway of 400 meters / 1312 feet in length, in Rinaura, 7 kilometers / 4.3 miles from the city.  It is possible to arrive by air, but in this case it is necessary to advise in advance by phone at (++39) 0931 721573 or (++39) 330 698963.

OTHER 
Restoration of the racetrack, also used for Formula 1 races until 1970 and remained unused since then, was underway in 2011.
